Video Work

OÕConnorÕs
video work traverses a world of exploration and exchanges. She uses the
camera as a tool in her investigations, where it becomes thrust right into
the action. This turbulent interaction is then sistered with its opposite, in
silent and often tender observational sequences. Most
of the videos on this page are from ÔThe Mortgage SeriesÕ, about the supposed
impending demolition of her childhood home. The project to date includes videos, photographs and
drawings. Five of the videos below are from this project [ÔAre We there Yet?Õ (2:55mins), ÔThe Green LightÕ
(2:20mins), ÔHomesick TriptychÕ (2:10mins), ÔNavigating The MortgageÕ (2:45mins) and ÔMarbulus InteruptusÕ (4:20mins)] Many
of these videos are expressed through the guises of a child, as she struggles
with understanding the inevitability of loss. Each piece communicates small details of the rituals and
nuances of her home space. Click
on the images below to view 20 second clips of each video.

ÔBye
Bye BabyÕ was born from experimentation with the camera, using it as a tool to
develop the idea of the viewer becoming proprietor of the acts being
watched. It is also concerned
with pleasure/pain borders. ÔMnemonicÕ
is part of a series dealing with memory loss. OÕConnor experiments with editing, using short jumps,
various camera angles and underlying images combined with indecipherable
sound to create a type of blurred unreality often associated with the recall
of memory. |
